Winterkill in area lakes uncertain


Only one partial dead fish was spotted at the mouth of the Shell River in Shell Lake earlier this spring. Last year, there were piles of fish going down river and hundreds of pelicans and other birds dining on the dead. Photo by Gale Kaas
Thick ice does not necessarily translate into dire circumstances for area lakes and the finny creatures that inhabit those bodies of water.
