Taste of the Wild brought record crowd


At Harvest Fellowship Church’s Taste of the Wild event Saturday at the Frazee Event Center, Steve Moe’s name was drawn as the winner of the new 14-foot WC-14 Lund Fishing boat and trailer. The winners of the wild game contest were (from left) sisters Madi Perrine, 8, and Taylor Perrine, 10, of Frazee, won the Kid Made category for Venison Jambalaya; Denise Warweg, Rochert, won Big Game with Sweet & Sour Venison Meatballs; Ryan Pierce, Pelican Rapids, won Small Game with White Pheasant Chili; Scott Voss, Cross Lake, won the Fish category for Pisces Pizza (for the 2nd year in a row); Steve Wolff, Osage, for Non-Game with Choco-Graham pudding; and for the Jerky category, Jon Dorsett won with his Venison Jerky. Harvest Fellowship Church’s Taste of the Wild event was held Saturday at the Frazee Event Center.
Harvest Fellowship Church hosted its fifth annual Taste of the Wild, Saturday at the Frazee Event Center. The community came in droves to the wild game feed throughout the hours of 1-7 p.m. with an estimated 465 visitors.

Richards hired as Vergas office assistant


Ronola Richards recently joined the city of Vergas team. She was hired as an assistant clerk and will work part-time at city hall.

Feral cat colony creates concerns in Toad Lake Township


Chris Pueringer suggested the township begin a catch and release program that includes fixing the felines. The Toad Lake resident had been catching and fixing cats in the colony, but her traps were broken.
The Toad Lake Township board is contemplating its options in dealing with a feral cat colony living next to its town hall.

Brain injury pushes rural Frazee man to accept change, start over

Todd Holmers 1991 Chevy Corsica was struck in the trunk area of the driver’s side at the intersection of U.S. Highway 10 and Becker County Highway 54. The impact sent his car westbound on the eastbound Highway 10 lane where he was struck head-on by a semi.
After enduring unexplained vision problems, migraines and seizures, Todd Holmer got answers he didn’t want to hear - at 49 years of age he had no choice but to start a new life.

Help the local food bank that serves Vergas, get discount on cases of beer


Julie Lammers and the staff at the Vergas Liquor Store are collecting non-perishable food and monetary donations for the mobile food pantry that serves the city. Coors is sponsoring the fundraising effort for the Vergas store.
The Minnesota Municipal Beverage Association is hosting a contest, pitting similar sized stores against one another to raise the most food or funds for local food banks. The winners receive $1,000 for their local food shelf.

The Vergas Maple Syrup Festival drew a big crowd to the annual event despite the cold temperatures. 
 
The pancake breakfast served hundreds as blue grass music filled the Vergas Event Center.
