Jayden Jane Bachmann was the recipient of the 100th baptismal banner made by Joan Ketter.

Ketter, a Frazee resident, has made baptismal banners for Bethlehem Lutheran Church for the past nine years. She took over the duties after when her predecessor moved away.

The keepsake is a large banner about 3-feet by 2 feet, hand stitched and takes about 15 hours to create.

On Sept. 23, 2020, Tavia Bachmann welcomed her daughter into the world, along with her husband Andrew and their two boys, Noah, 6, and Ashton, 3.

The boys share a bedroom and on the wall is the banner that Ketter made for them when they were baptized. Their mother noted one day her oldest son was looking at the banner.

“He pointed out that day was the day on the banner, which opened up a conversation about baptism and what that meant,” Bachmann said.

While she looks forward to similar conversations with her other two children, Bachmann said the banner is also a great reminder for every member of her household to celebrate the special day they became part of God’s community and under the guidance of God’s love.

Bachmann was informed her daughter’s banner was a special one for Ketter, who sent a card before-hand sharing the fun fact.

“To know she has created banners for 100 church members shows how much she does for the church,” Bachmann said. “One hundred banners is a lot, and it is so neat that we have people in the church that are giving. It is a blessing.”
