Frazee drops close match to WCA

Frazee opened its regular season with a commanding win over Barnesville and close loss to West Central Area on Thursday night.

The Hornets fell to the Knights 37-31 as Frazee dominated the early weights, before the Knights won five of the final seven matches of the night, including pins in three of the last four matches to come away with the win.

The Knights opened the match with a decision at 106 lbs. and a win by forfeit at 113 lbs. to take a 9-0 lead. 

Bailey Peichel got the Hornets on the scoreboard with an 11-1 major decision over Adam Lohse to make the score 9-4 in favor of WCA. Christian Carlson followed with a 6-2 decision over Solomon Wales, before Brady Crabtree put the Hornets in front with a 6-2 decision of his own at 132 lbs. to give Frazee a 10-9 lead.

Jake Nagel followed with a fall over Ashton Danner at 138 lbs. at the 2:26 mark of his match to make the score 16-9 in favor of Frazee.

Kaden Hiemenz continued the Frazee onslaught with the teams fifth straight win when he needed just 45 seconds to secure of pin over Dierk Goeden to make the score 22-9 in favor of Frazee heading into the 152 lbs. match.

Unfortunately the Hornets were only able to secure a pair of wins down the stretch as Brock Barlund won a 5-2 decision at 170 lbs. and Daniel Graham made the score 31-25 in favor of Frazee when he secured a late pin over Beau Robinson at 195 lbs. 

The Knights secured pins in the final two matches of the night to come away with the 37-31 win.

In addition to their match against the Knights, the Hornets were able to come away with a commanding 63-9 win over Barnesville. The Hornets won six matches by forfeit and another four matches by fall to secure their first win of the season.

Cade Nagel got the Hornets on the scoreboard when he secured a pin over Asher O’Brien at the 2:36 mark of his 106 lbs. match.

After a double forfeit at 113 lbs. and a Bailey Piechel forfeit at 120 lbs., the Trojans were able to come away with its first of two wins of the night. Ayden Hauck secured a 5-4 decision over Frazee’s Christian Carlson in a match that came down to the wire. 

Crabtree followed with a 6-0 decision to put the Hornets back in front 15-3 before Jake Nagel secured a first period fall over Dawson Gregg at 138 lbs. 

That fall was followed by five straight forfeits by the Trojans, and a fall at 195 lbs. by Barnesville to make the score 51-9 in favor of Frazee.

Byron Kropuenske and Xander Kohler wrapped up the match in commanding fashion for Frazee as the pair secured pins at 220 and 285 lbs. to make the score 63-9 in favor of Frazee.

In other action, WCA secured a 60-21 win over Barnesville. 

This week the Hornets will travel to Perham for a triangular against the Yellowjackets and Grand Rapids. Frazee will wrestle the second match of the night against Grand Rapids and the final match against Perham. 

On Saturday the Hornets will travel to Staples-Motley for a triangular against the Cardinals and Border West.
