Frazee played point-for-point with the Breckenridge for most of the first half, but unfortunately, the Cowgirls couldn’t miss in the second half as they handed the Hornets their sixth straight loss by a score of 79-42 on Thursday night. It was the lone game of the week for the Hornets as they are now 1-6 overall and 0-5 in the Heart O’ Lakes Conference.

Autumn Hiemenz scored a pair of points during Thursday’s game against Breckenridge. 

This week the Hornets will host Wadena-Deer Creek in non-conference action on Tuesday, before hosting Barnesville in another HOL Conference game on Friday. 

The Wolverines are 4-4 on the season as they average 47.5 points per game on offense and give up 40.5 points per game on defense. Meanwhile, the Trojans come into the game with a record of 5-2 overall, while averaging 58.8 points per game on offense, while giving up 48.3 points per game on defense. 

The Hornets average 41 points per game on offense, while they give up 60 points per game on defense. 

Jan. 26

Twenty Frazee turnovers proved to be too much to overcome for the Hornets in their HOL game against Hawley on Jan. 26. The Nuggets also shot over 43 percent and hit 10 3-point shots on their way to a 71-42 won.

Frazee trailed by a score of 38-22 at halftime and was able to slow down the Nugget charge in the second half a bit thanks to 17 offensive rebounds that lead to 10 second chance points. The Hornets actually outrebounded the Nuggets by a 37-35 margin. 

Dani Piche and Annika Reierson led the way offensively as they scored 8 points apiece. Harley Kropuenske and Madison Starry each scored 7 points and Ellie Reierson chipped in with 5 points inside. Olivia Petron scored 3 points, while Autumn Hiemenz and Kaidence Mayfield rounded out the scoring with 2 points apiece.

Ellie Reierson led the team with 7 rebounds, while Annika Reierson and Anissa Antonsen each had a pair of assists.

Frazee was able to overcome a tough first half by playing point-for-point with the Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton Rebels in the second half of their HOL game on Jan. 29. Unfortunately, the Hornets were unable to overcome a 30-17 halftime deficit as they fell by a score of 57-44.

After scoring just 17 points in the first half, the Hornets were able to pick up the offensive output in the second half thanks to five 3-pointers and an impressive 13-20 night at the free throw line. The Hornets were also able to get 8 points off of turnovers thanks to 11 steals and 17 Nugget turnovers in the game. 

Piche and Annika Reierson led the way offensively as they scored 14 and 13 points respectively. Antonsen scored 6 points, while Starry scored 5, Hiemenz 4, Madison Olson 1 and Kropuenski 1 to round out the scoring.

Thursday

In their lone game of the week last week, Frazee trailed by single digits and actually led briefly in the first half, before a series of late shots near the end of the first half put Breckenridge in front 44-27 at halftime. The Cowgirls kept that momentum going in the second half as they shot a blistering 66.7 percent from the field, and missed just 16 shots the entire night, as they came away with a 79-42 win in Frazee.

The Hornets were able to shoot just over 31 percent from the field and forced 17 Cowgirl turnovers, but Breckenridge was able to score 52 points in the paint and held a 38-13 advantage in rebounding. 

Annika Reierson led the charge offensively as she went 6-8 from the field, and an impressive 4-5 from behind the 3-point line to finish with 17 points. Piche finished with 8 points, while Starry scored 7 points. Antonsen scored 5 points, Mayfield 3 and Hiemenz rounded out the scoring with 2 points in the loss.
