Annika Reierson hit five 3-pointers and Madison Starry scored 18 points as the Hornets snapped its six game losing streak on Tuesday night. Reierson finished with 17 points and the Hornet defense forced 24 Wadena-Deer Creek turnovers to come away with a 53-48 non-conference win.

On Friday, the Hornets fell to 2-7 overall and 0-6 in the Heart O’ Lakes Conference with a 69-36 loss to Barnesville.

This week the Hornets will hit the road for a pair of conference games as they will travel to Pelican Rapids on Thursday and Breckenridge on Saturday. Earlier this season the Hornets fell to the Vikings by a score of 53-31 and the Cowgirls by a score of 79-42. 

The Hornets will be road warriors for the remainder of the season as they have just two more home games on the schedule, a March 2 game against Norman County East/Ulen-Hitterdal and a March 5 game against Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton.

Frazee is currently averaging 41.8 points per game on offense, while giving up 59.7 points per game on the defensive end of the court. 

Tuesday

In a game that went down to the wire, Frazee snapped its six game losing streak with a 53-48 non-conference win over Wadena-Deer Creek on Tuesday night. After scoring just 19 points in the first half and trailing 21-19 at the halftime break, the Hornets picked up its offensive intensity in the second half as they hit several big shots late to erase an 8-point deficiency to come away with the win. 

The Hornets led by as many as 8 points late in the second half before the Wolverines made a quick comeback to tie the game late in the second half. Fortunately, the Hornets hit several big shots down the stretch to come away with their second win of the season. 

Defense proved to be the big difference in the game as Frazee forced 24 turnovers, which led to 23 points off of turnovers and 11 transition points. The Hornets finished with 13 steals, while only turning over the ball 11 times in the win. The Hornets also found quite a bit of success from the free throw line as they went Frazee went 8-12 from the line in the win. 

Starry led the offensive charge as the senior finished with 18 points and a pair of rebounds. Reierson went 5-8 from behind the 3-point line as she finished with 17 points and 5 rebounds, while Dani Piche joined the pair in double figures as she scored 14 points and had a pair of assists.

Olivia Petron and Autumn Hiemenz rounded out the scoring with 2 points apiece.

Friday

Frazee fell to 0-6 in the Heart O’ Lakes Conference as the Hornets fell to Barnesville by a score of 69-36 on Friday night. The Hornets forced 22 Trojan turnovers, but turned the ball over themselves 30 times in the loss. The big difference in the game came in the pain as Barnesville held a 46-10 advantage in points in the paint and held a 41-29 advantage in rebounding. 

The Hornets were able to once again find quite a bit of success from the free throw line as they went 10-15 in the game, while shooting just 26.7 percent from the field. 

Starry led the charge offensively with 16 points in the game, while also pulling down 5 rebounds.

Reierson scored 8 points to go along with 3 rebounds, while Piche and Kaidence Mayfield scored 5 points apiece. Harley Kropuenske rounded out the scoring with 2 points in the loss.
