Hornets to travel to Hawley on Thursday

Frazee found itself staring down a pair of juggernauts in both the Heart O’ Lakes Conference and Section 8AA last week. 

On Thursday the Hornets fell to Pelican Rapids by a score of 61-30, before falling to the Breckenridge by a score of 62-25 on Saturday. The pair of losses drops the Hornets to 2-8 on the season and 0-7 in the Heart O’ Lakes Conference. 

This week the Hornets will hit the road once again as they travel to Perham on Tuesday night and Hawley on Friday for a pair of HOL games. 

Thursday

Frazee traveled to conference leading Pelican Rapids (10-1 overall and 8-0 in the HOL) on Thursday night. In a game that was close for much of the first half, Frazee trailed just 34-21 at the halftime break. The Vikings were able to pull away in the second half thanks to a tough defensive presence on the court. 

Frazee was outscored by a 27-9 margin in the second half as the Vikings came away with a 61-30 HOL win. 

As a team, the Vikings shots 46 percent from the field and hit eight 3-pointers. They also made the most out of 24 Frazee turnovers. Frazee shot 30 percent from the field and hit five 3-pointers of their own in the loss.

Frazee was led offensively by Annika Reierson who finished a perfect 3-3 from behind the 3-point line to finish with 12 points. She also led the team in rebounds with 5 and assists with 4. 

Harley Kropuenske finished with 6 points, while Dani Piche scored 5, Anissa Antonsen scored 3, Autumn Hiemenz scored 2 points Kaidence Mayfield rounded out the scoring with 2 points.

Saturday

Frazee stuck with Breckenridge for much of the first half, before a late Cowgirl charge midway through the opening 18 minutes of action pushed its lead to 35-11 at the halftime break. The second half was more of the same as the Hornets played right with the Cowgirls (7-3 overall and 5-2 in the conference) until late in the second half when they started to pull away to secure a 65-25 win over the Hornets on Saturday.

Frazee once again turned the ball over more than 20 times as they finished with 26 turnovers against a tough Breckenridge defense. 

Starry led the charge offensively as she scored 7 points, while Reierson, Mayfield and Kropuenske each finished with 5 points. Piche rounded out the scoring with 3 points in the loss.
