The summer celebrations in area communities are gearing up to make a return after a hiatus due to COVID-19.

During the Frazee Economic Development meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 23, Frazee Community Club member Mark Flemmer said the inaugural  weekly parade and all-around fun night in Frazee will get a second chance. 

The idea sprung to life last year, and quickly gained momentum and support. But, the pandemic put a halt on the fun. The concept will be the same this year. Weekly parades throughout the month of July will be held Thursday nights. Each week will offer a different theme and everyone will be encouraged to dress according to the theme and join in the short parade down Main Avenue.

In addition to the parade, the community club plans to provide live music from area musicians and potentially food trucks, a farmer’s market and more.

The EDA provided $1,150 in funding last year. When the events were canceled the funds were returned. The EDA agreed to fund the fun night once again, with money going toward hiring musicians and providing a reward for parade participants. 

The Vergas Maple Syrup Festival will also be returning on Saturday, April 10. 

The Vergas Lions and Vergas Community Club recently announced the news. In addition to the 5K run/walk, a kids maple leaf hunt and all ages maple medallion hunt are planned, in addition to the pancake feed. The pancakes are served with real maple syrup, sausage and juice that will cost $10 and will be offered from 8-11 a.m. at the Vergas Event Center. There will be limited indoor seating, so a drive-thru service will also be offered. Stores will also be opened and offer specials to celebrate the day filled with fun family activities.
