Those visiting Frazee Elementary may have noticed a new face behind the command center at the main office.

Cindy Wischnak was hired for the administrative assistant, and for some her name and face may be familiar. For the past nine years the Vergas resident has worked as a paraprofessional, mostly with special education students.

When the opportunity to learn about all aspects of the district was offered through the administrative assistant position, Wischnak said the job seemed to be a perfect fit as she has a thirst for knowledge.

“I knew a lot of the students from being a para,” she said. “But, I’m meeting many more now.”

Wischnak quickly learned the office is not a quiet place. If a phone isn’t ringing, students aren’t stopping in to get a message or parents aren’t dropping off forgotten homework, it is likely the weekend.

“I enjoy the fast pace,” she said. “I’m always busy and every day there are different things to do. I also enjoy having more interaction with parents.”

The daughter of John and Gayle Schmit is a 1995 Detroit Lakes High School graduate. She married Ken, a graduate from Frazee High School, and the two have two children, Ashley, 15, and Brody, 12.

Wischnak said her family is one that appreciates outdoor adventures and have made a few trips to Yellowstone National Park. They also keep busy traveling to sporting events as their daughter is in basketball and track and their son is in trap.
