Anglers gearing up to hit the lakes when the water opens up may want to be aware of new fishing regulations.

Little Toad Lake now has new restrictions by the Minnesota Department of Resources regarding Northern Pike and sunfish. Other area lakes with new sunfish regulations include Long Lake in Vergas, Height of Land, North Tamarack, Star and West Silent.

Vergas’ Long Lake is located in the heart of Vergas and is a popular location for panfish, as the city beach offers a fishing pier that draws visitors and locals alike. The DNR sunfish limit is 10 per day for Long Lake, which offers an area of 1,289 acres and a maximum depth of 128 feet.

Height of Land’s new sunfish regulations will have a daily limit of 10. The lake in Becker County offers an area of about 3,795 acres, a mean depth of almost 8 feet and maximum depth of 21 feet. 

Little Toad Lake requires all northern pike from 24-36 inches be released immediately. There is also a limit of possessing three pike, with only one that can be larger than 36 inches. The lake in Becker County also has a possession limit of 10 sunfish. Little Toad Lake offers an area of 406 acres, an average depth of about 24 feet and maximum depth of 65 feet.

North Tamarack Lake has a daily limit of five sunfish. The Becker County lake near Rochert has an area of 1,442 acres and maximum depth of 17 feet.

Star Lake has a sunfish possession limit of 10. The Otter Tail County Lake near Dent offers 4,486 acres and a maximum depth of 94 feet.   

West Silent Lake has a sunfish daily limit of five. The Otter Tail County Lake near Dent offers 347 acres and a maximum depth of 58 feet.
