Frazee wasted little time getting back into the swing of things last week.
After having their entire season canceled last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Hornets opened their season with five games, including three games as part of a quadrangular on Saturday.
The Hornets opened their season on Thursday night when they hosted Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton in Heart O’ Lakes Conference action.
In the opening game of the night, the Hornets were powered by Anissa Antonsen, who hit her first career home run. In the top of the fifth inning, Antonsen belted a 3-run shot over the left field fence that also brought Madison Starry and Malena Mahoney across the plate.
Unfortunately, the home run wasn’t quite enough as the Hornets fell by a score of 8-4.
Head coach Matt Bauer said Mahoney pitched well in the game and gave up 10 hits, but just 6 earned runs in the loss.
In the second game the Hornets fell by a score of 12-3 with Starry picking up the loss on the mound. She gave up 11 hits and 10 earned runs.
Dani Piche led the charge in the second game as she got all three Hornet hits with two of them as doubles.
On Saturday, the Hornets defeated East Grand Forks by a score of 23-2 and fell to Pequot Lakes 1-0 (a solo home run was the difference in the game), while also falling to Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton by a score of 12-7. A complete wrap up from Saturday’s quadrangular will be featured in next week’s issue of the Frazee-Vergas Forum.
