Frazee-Vergas Forum

Denise Anderson was offered the position of Frazee City Clerk and accepted. She is the current city clerk in Glyndon and will start her position n Frazee on August 1. 

The city of Vergas will soon advertise for a second full-time public utilities worker. The decision to hire another full-time public works person came about because of the resignation of Tyanne Jacobson.  In addition to helping out with public works job she also was the Vergas Event Center manager. The council decided to split the two positions. The public works position will include about 32 hours per week and is considered as full time. 

There was plenty of scary weather and clouds this past week. Some areas received almost 9 inches of rain Thursday through Monday, with Monday’s rain the heaviest at over 4 ½ inches in some locations. A hay shed at Roger Schaefer’s farm was completely destroyed by the storm on Saturday night. 

Hailey Jutz, 20, daughter of Shantel Jutz, Frazee, and the late Chad Jutz, was crowned Miss Northwest 2016, Friday, July 7 at the Miss Northwest Pageant during the Northwest Water Carnival.

Dog problems have consumed vast amounts of time for police officers and other city workers. Most of the problems arise when the dogs are on the loose. City ordinance prohibits dogs from running at large. Last month, there were 13 official dog complaints. Within a one-month period, two people were bitten by loose dogs. A pair of dogs recently killed a resident’s pet rabbits, kept in cages in their yard. Most problems arise from unlicensed dogs. This year, 80 residents have purchased the $3 city dog tags. That number is up from the usual amount of 35. The city has a list of at least 20 dogs owners who still need to purchase the dog tags. 

Zee Lanes was the scene of an old-fashioned working bee Wednesday, July 3 as 20 volunteers helped to place the new lanes on the alleys. The next step for the wooden lanes is to screw them in place. Then the pinsetters can be installed. The outside structure is complete and now the interior work is being done. 

The 42nd Annual Turkey Days officially kicks off on Friday. The three-day event runs Sunday.

Frazee Police Officer Bruce Anderson is back on duty after an almost five month absence. He was injured in a Feb. 16 scuffle with a juvenile on Main Avenue. Anderson says that doctors said he broke his left leg (fibula) in four places, just one inch above the ankle joint. This same leg was broken in 1982 when a drunk driver hit him while he was riding motorcycle.

Minnesota Governor Wendell Anderson will be the Parade Marshall of the 36th annual Northwest Water Carnival Parade on Sunday. The parade will feature over 120 units with the Winnipeg City Police Pipe Band appearing for the first time. Also coming from Winnipeg is the Queen’s Own Cameroon Highlanders and two units of majorettes. 

Frazee’s Babe Ruth baseball team split a pair of games with Vergas last week, winning 5-2 and losing 6-5 and then defeated the DL Elks 2-1 in the Lake Region Junior Baseball League. 

Wanted: Boys, girls and pets to enter the Pet and Doll Parade on August 15 for Turkey Days.  This year’s theme is “Storybook Friends on Parade.” All boys and girls 12 years and younger from the Frazee area and surrounding communities are invited to enter. A quarter will be given to each child entering the event and cash prizes will be awarded to the winners.
