If an amateur magician wants to showcase their skills, a comedian has a few jokes to share, a vocalist has a song to sing or dancer feels the need to bust a move, consider joining the brand new Turkey Days Variety Show Fundraiser on Friday, July 23 starting at 6 p.m.
Anyone interested in joining should contact the Becky Matejka no later than Wednesday, July 21 by calling (218) 234-8910.
The event is new to Turkey Days and is being brought to the long list of fun events by Miss Frazee Delaney Matejka and Miss Frazee’s Outstanding Teen Braylee Riewer.
Delaney’s mother, Becky, shared the idea of a variety show was discussed for some time.
“Back in the 1990s we used to have a talent or variety show,” Becky recalled, adding the royalty recognized the elementary school wasn’t able to host its annual talent show due to COVID-19 restrictions.
The Frazee royalty thought a Turkey Days showcase would allow those youngsters (and adults) in the area to show off their talents. They presented it to the Frazee Area Community Club, who welcomed them with open arms and support.
The Variety Show Fundraiser will be held at the Frazee High School football field. A stage will be in place, as will a sound system that will be available for all of the talent. If inclement weather rolls in, the event will be moved to the main gym at the high school.
The cost to attend will be $5 for adults, $3 for students and those 5 and younger get in free). All proceeds will go to the music program at Frazee High School. Miss Frazee’s platform was to enhance the musical programming at her alma mater. The funds will be gifted to the music department to purchase needed items to benefit current students.
“Delaney will also have her CD for sale at half price ($5),” Becky said. “It is a real bargain.”
Becky added the Grid Iron Club may also have Hornet coupon cards for sale at the event, providing the cards are printed in time.
Other new events added to the 67th Annual Turkey Days line up between Friday, July 23-Sunday, July 25 include:
• A Pizza, Pitchers and Puzzles event at the VFW on Friday, July 23 at 7 p.m.
Jaden and Tanner Karger are hosting the event. Jaden explained a team of four people need to drink four pitchers of beer, eat a large pizza and put together a 300-piece puzzle. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top finishers.
“Tanner and I have friends who attend college in Duluth and they went to a similar event,” Jaden said. “They told us how much fun they had, so we decided to try it out.”
The cost is $80 per team. The 21-plus event requires pre-registration. Call (701) 552-1429 to register no later than 8 a.m. on Wednesday, July 21.
• Cotton Candy at Chic Shed from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
• Book walk from 12-12:45 p.m. on Main Avenue. Tavia Bachmann explained books covering a variety of levels with an emphasis on grades K-6 will be available. Everyone starts on a circle.
