Frazee-Vergas Forum

Morgan Laine, daughter of Richard and Dana Laine of Osage, was crowned Miss Frazee 2016 Saturday at the Miss Frazee Pageant. Cassidy Shipman, 15, daughter of Jay and Daneele Shipman was crowned as Miss Frazee’s Outstanding Teen 2016. 

Travis Nagle will be inducted into the Minnesota State University Moorhead Hall of Fame for his wrestling legacy as a Dragon between 1997 and 2001. During his years as a Dragon he earned a career record of 83-33 as well as two titles as an All American and as a Midwest Region Champion.  While he was a NCAA national qualifier, he placed fifth in the nation in 2000 and sixth in 2001. He also earned three NSIC Championships. Twice Nagle was named NSIC Wrestler of the Year. Once,       in 2001, he earned the Midwest Region Outstanding Wrester title and in the 2000 National Duals he was named Outstanding Wrestler. Nagel returned to Frazee after college and is now the Frazee Elementary Principal. 

Anna Potvin was hired as the new Frazee High School principal at a special board meeting Wednesday, July 27.  She has spent her entire educational career working in the Pine City School District.  She started her new position in Frazee on Monday. August 1.

With increased distribution, Frazee’s newest manufacturer- Fridge Guard, will easily double its output and increase employee numbers. The plan is to hire two to five new employees in August. Currently, the staff consists of three full-time and one part-time employee. 

Denny Iverson is working hard to get the new Vergas 66 Station open in time for Looney Days on Aug.8. He expects his first shipment of gas today and hopes to have the pumps open before Looney Days. This fall the station plans to start a build delivery service for fuel oil. Propane for barbeque grills will also be added. 

The number of Frazee city dog tags issued this year is still rising. Currently there are 88 dogs licensed in the city, up considerably from an average of 35.

Plans have been announced for the Jr. King and Queen contest during Frazee Turkey Days by chairwomen Char Johnson, Hazel Mickelson and Dorothy Leno. All boys and girls up to first grade are eligible to compete in the contest. There will be entertainment and prizes for all children who enter. The theme this year is “Up, Up and Away in my Beautiful Balloon.” 

Darrell “Tuffy” Nelson of Perham won medalist honors in the Annual Frazee Shortstop Tournament held at the Frazee Golf Course on Sunday. Eighty -three golfers took part in the event. Nelson fired a 105 total score for 27 holes in the championship flight to edge Gary Douglas of Bemidji by one stroke. The two men were toed when they teed off for on the short par 5 ninth hole. Douglas got his par but Nelson birdied the hole to win the championship.
