The Frazee-Vergas School Board Budget and Facility Committee discussed selling a lot that is unused by the district to Minnesota Department of Transportation for the 2022 State Highway 87 road project.

Frazee-Vergas school superintendent Terry Karger said one lot could  be sold outright and has a valuation of $41,000. The other plot would be temporarily purchased for about $2,100 and then the school would have the option of purchasing it back for the same cost. The temporary purchase is for work that needs to be done during the reconstruct project.

Karger said the AmVets approached the district and asked if they could fundraise with the purpose of placing a flag and plaque honoring veterans in each high school classroom.

The committee posed several questions to ask AmVets before the full board reviews the request.

Karger also informed the committee that the school forest project providing new bathroom facilities is underway. The tank has been installed, he said.

Also in the school forest area, Karger was made aware that neighbors to the forest are considering brining in power to their land. If they moved forward, Karger said it may be an opportune time to bring electricity to the forest. He asked if there would be a benefit to having power in the forest.
