Homemade recipes often produce the most delicious meals. St. John’s Lutheran Church in Height of Land will be serving up its best recipe as part of a fundraiser on Sunday, Sept. 12 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The church is located just off State Highway 34 (37425 County Highway 56, Frazee).

The meal includes homemade sauerkraut with pork, potatoes, corn, baked bans, bread and dessert, all for a freewill donation.

Church member Carolyn Wenger said the annual fundariser helps the church with service projects and maintenance. This year the funds are targeted to making the church handicapped accessible, from the bathrooms to the entrance. Currently, there are “old steep steps” into the church, Wenger reported.

The church has been tucking away funds and working on its goal for a few years.

“We have a ways to go with fundraising,” she said, noting modifications to blueprints still need to be made. “But, we hope to break ground in the spring.”

In addition to the hearty meal, there will be items for sale and potentially fresh produce. The neighborly fun begins after church service, which all are welcome to attend as well. The service starts at 9 a.m.
