Hornets to open HOL action on Thursday night against DGF

The Frazee Hornets volleyball team has opened their season with a pair of non-conference wins. 

The Hornets opened their season with a tough non-conference loss to Norman County East/Ulen-Hitterdal on Monday, Aug. 30. Frazee fell by a score of 3-1 (25-27, 25-16, 24-26, 21-25) and were led offensively by Elsie Ratz and Hailey Selly who each had 8 kills on the night. Riyan Eckert chipped in with 6 kills and also finished with 2 solo blocks.

Eckert and Ratz also led the way serving as each Hornet finished with 3 aces and Annika Reierson finished with 12 digs.

Just one night later, the Hornets fell to New York Mills by a score of 3-0. NY Mills secured the first game by a score of 26-15 and the second game by a score of 25-11. 

Frazee fought back in the third game and came just 5 points away from forcing a fourth game, but ultimately fell by a score of 25-20. 

The Hornets were led by Reierson with 3 aces and 14 digs. Ratz and Selly once again led the way with 4 kills each, while Eckert finished with 3.

In their third game of the week, Frazee notched its first win of the season ion Sept. 2 as they defeated Park Christian by a score of 3-1. The Hornets dropped the first game by a score of 25-18, before sweeping the Falcons in the remaining three games by scores of 25-21, 25-13 and 25-22 to come away with the win. 

Reierson had a big game on the defensive end of the court for the Hornets as the senior had 20 digs. Harley Kropuenske led the charge with 4 aces, while Eckert finished with 3. 

Ratz led the team offensively as she had 6 kills, while Eckert chipped in with 5.

On Sept. 7, the Hornets fell to Lake Park-Audubon by a score of 3-0 (25-10, 25-23, 25-20). Among the highlights of the night was Eckert who finished with 4 kills.

The Hornets wrapped up a busy two weeks of action on Sept. 9 as they came away with a thrilling 3-2 win over Battle Lake. 

Frazee found itself down 2-0 after falling 25-19, 25-18 in the opening two games of the night. However, the Hornets fought back to come away with a thrilling 26-24 win in the third game, before overwhelming the Battlers 25-12 and 15-9 to come away with the win.

Ratz and Selly had huge nights at the net for the Hornets as they finished with 12 kills apiece. Eckert finished with 10 of her own.

Reierson led the way with 24 digs and 4 aces, while Ratz finished with 3 aces.

This week the Hornets will host Ada Borup-West on Monday, before kicking off their conference schedule with a game against Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton on the road. 

Next week the Hornets will travel to Bertha-Hewitt on Tuesday in non-conference action, before hitting the road for another conference game against Barnesville on Thursday night.
