0The Frazee Hornet 8th grade football team opened their season hosting the Trojans from Barnesville on Thursday, Sept. 16.
Barnesville jumped out to an early lead 6-0 but the Hornets answered with a 20-yard scamper from Adam Vigen. Dawson Lyman followed with the conversion to go up 8-0. The game went back and forth with some highlights from Jack Graham as he had a nice kickoff return and Lyman grabbed a big catch to put Frazee back in scoring position.
In the second half the Hornets figured out how to slow the Trojans down, but did not quite have the perfect formula in the closing drives.
Tanner Moe had some nice runs and a touchdown, but Barnesville was too much for the Hornets and won 28 -22.
Scoring for Frazee: Vigen 2 TD and a PAT, Moe TD, and Lyman with a 2pt conversion.
The following week Frazee traveled to Henning to take on the Bulldogs of OTC. The Hornets offensive line set the tone early by dominating the line of scrimmage.
Gabe Schemmerhorn made a key block that sprung Lyman for a 50-yard scamper. Vigen followed with a touchdown run and Lyman converted the PAT.
Kicker Ray Sanchez and the Hornet kick off team pinned the Bulldogs deep. The Hornets Defense held for a quick three and out and made OTC punt.
On the next series the Bulldogs punted again thanks to some big hits by Tanner Moe, Jack Graham and Karson Krause. This time, Vigen returned the punt for a touchdown. The Bulldogs answer with a touchdown of their own.
Vigen found Jack Graham for a 60-yard TD pass which was sprung by another big downfield block by Schemerhorn. Krause got free for a PAT catch to go up 24-14 at the half.
Frazee continued to dominate the second half. The defense decided that no more points would be given up that afternoon. The defensive line especially turned it up led by Blake Amundson in the middle, DT’s Breckke Koenig and Ramzey Galbrecht and DEs Krause and Conner Erickson.
Vigen closed out the game with another highlight intercepting the pass to seal the game. Moe got in on the scoring spree with a touchdown run and Cash Osterman snuck in for the conversion. Frazee went on to win 40-14.
Scoring for Frazee: Vigen 3 TD, Moe 1 TD, Graham 1 TD.
