Goodman’s SuperMarket will celebrate 41 years in business before closing its doors on Sunday, Oct. 16 at 2 p.m. Theresa Harthun said the decision was made by the family with heavy hearts. The Vergas EDA is discussing options to help fill the storefront. They are also looking into grant programs in regards to the building. The building is listed for sale with Jack Chivers Realty.
One team and three individuals will be inducted into the Frazee-Vergas School District’s Hall of Fame on Saturday, Oct. 8 at the Frazee Event Center. The 1990 Frazee High School football team had a record setting and memory – making year. The team set an all-time best season scoring record of 103 points. Of those 62 were made during the regular season in a five-class system. Today there is a seven-class system. Gene Ulschmid earned his Hall of Fame induction by being the man who became a Big Ten 100-yard dash champion and had a photo finish between him and Fargo Shanley’s Roger Maris. Ulschmid was an all around athlete in the 1950’s. Jennifer Hensel graduated in 2005 and was a competitive athlete in cross -country, basketball and track. After high school she went on to compete for Minnesota State University Moorhead’s track and field team. She was two-time captain for MSUM and a member of the 2006 Outdoor NSIC Championship team. Mark Aho graduated from Frazee High School in 1978 s the school’s first state champion in wrestling. He compiled a high school record of 119-9-3, in what was a two-class system, and achieved four All-Conference awards during his wrestling career. He was a four-time letter winner in wrestling, football and baseball. After high school he wrestled and played baseball for Fergus Falls Community College and eventually became a physical education/Health teacher and coach for Fergus Falls High School.

The Frazee Economic Development Authority was notified last week that it was no longer a candidate for the new Marvin Windows plant. The number one reason Frazee is out of the running is “demographics”, said councilman Fred Daggett. Detroit Lakes is still one of eight cities still in the running for the new Marvin plant.
Bids on the Maple Avenue sewer and water expansion project came in almost $10,000 lower than the engineer’s estimates. This means that all of the work may be completed by February on the proposed $560,000 12-unit apartment complex planned for West Maple Avenue near the Frazee Care Center.
The Frazee Community Club is sponsoring its first ever Oktoberfest this Saturday on Main Avenue starting at 4 p.m. An authentic German meal will be served and the Heritage Dancers from Moorhead State University will be performing during the meal. The celebration will feature a beer garden, people in official German clothing along with a 5-piece polka band from Pierz, Minn.

There will be no competition for three offices to be voted on at the village election, Nov. 3. As the filing period closed Tuesday night, Robert Matthews filed to seek his fourth term as Mayor of Frazee. James E. Kyte also filed for re-election as Justice of the Peace. Kermit Otto entered his name for the trustee post now held by Walt Wothe, who did not seek another term. Wothe has served about 4 ½ years on the council.
Homecoming plans are underway at the Frazee High School for the year of 1971, set for October 8. Queen candidates are Cheryl Jacobs, Faye Berven, Mari Kohler and Murlene Aho.
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Gorne, long time residents of the Frazee community, quietly noted their 73rd wedding anniversary Sept. 29. The Gorne’s are residents of the Detroit Lakes Nursing Center.
