Kids can make bad choices on the internet, which might go viral or at least cause unnecessary headaches or heartaches. There is also an element of danger on the Web, and making sure kids understand how to be safe is just as important.

On  Monday, Nov. 29 from 7-8:15 p.m. at the Detroit Lakes High School commons  (1301 Roosevelt Avenue) the Detroit Lakes Rotary Clubs will co-host a fun and educational seminar about proper online behavior and cyber safety. This session is free and intended for audiences grade 6 to adult. 

Rotarian Ken Mollberg will lead the seminar. He has a master’s degree in information technology and created the seminar after witnessing firsthand the internet dangers  students face daily. Mollberg has presented at more than 200 schools and professional conferences to an audience estimated at more than 50,000.

“When I went to school the leading school discipline problems were talking, chewing gum, making noise, running in the hall, getting out of place in line, wearing improper clothing and not using the wastebasket,” Mollberg said. “In 2021 the leading school discipline problems are drugs and alcohol, sexual harassment, robbery and assault, social networking, cyberbullying and school shootings.”

Detroit Lakes Noon Rotary President Travis Stone said the Rotarians are sponsoring the event because it supports the driving principals behind Rotary, which focus on the truth, on being beneficial to all and aims to build goodwill and better friendships.
