Bethlehem Lutheran Church hosts annual Christmas sale

    The annual Bethlehem Lutheran Church Christmas sale was held on Friday afternoon in Frazee. All of the items at the sale are a quarter. The sale gives local families the opportunity to purchase something a little extra to put under a Christmas tree each year.

Local Christmas trees likely got some of their first presents placed under their branches last weekend. That was thanks to the annual Bethlehem Lutheran Church Christmas sale, which was held on Friday afternoon in Frazee. 

As part of the event, local children are able to shop for presents for their family members and purchase items for just a quarter apiece. The event is meant to be a fun way for children to pick out presents for their family members, while also showing their loved ones how much they care.

“We have a basement full of gifts that have been donated, some have been purchased,” said Betty Bigger. “Everything is in good shape and everything is a quarter.”

The holiday shopping spree features everything from toys to games, small appliances and everything in-between. The children pick out and purchase the items for their family members, while their guardians wait in another room. The gifts are then wrapped by a number of volunteers who all do their part to make the Christmas season a little brighter for local families. 

Bigger said a note about the annual event is sent home with all of the children at the Frazee-Vergas School District each year. While many of the items are donated to the church for the event,  some of the proceeds from the quarter sale are used to purchase items for the following year. In years past, the church has collected around 600 quarters from the event.

“We have families tell us if it wasn’t for this little event their Christmas would be much less than it is,” said Bigger. “It’s a very rewarding event.”
