Frazee drops three road games, to host Perham on Thursday

The Frazee Hornets put some extra miles on the bus last week as the Hornets had three road games.
The Hornets dropped all three games, which included a stop at Class A fifth ranked New York Mills on Saturday.
This week the Hornets, who are 3-10 overall and 1-5 in the Heart O’ Lakes Conference, will get some home cooking as they hosted Norman County East/Ulen-Hitterdal on Monday, before hosting Perham in another HOL Conference game on Friday night.
The Hornets will host Battle Lake in non-conference action on Tuesday, Feb. 8 as well.
Tuesday
Frazee came out of the gates on fire last Monday night, but Park Rapids was able to defeat the Hornets by a score of 64-50.
The Hornets held a commanding double digit lead late in the first half, but the Panthers were able to chip away at Frazee’s lead to take a 30-27 lead at halftime. The Hornets went on several runs throughout the second half to chip away at the Panthers’ lead, but ultimately were unable to over come the Panthers down the stretch.
Frazee shot 38.2 percent from the field in the game and went 4-12 from the 3-point line. The big difference in the game came in the paint where the Panthers held a 44-22 advantage. The Hornets also shared the ball throughout the night as they had 16 assists on 21 made shots from the field.
Three Hornets reached double figures scoring as George Flynn led the way with 14 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists. Nathan Johannsen registered a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds, while Asher Blaine scored 10 points to go along with 4 rebounds.
Kale Ovsak scored 6 points, while Alex Helmers scored 5 points, Carter Sonnenberg scored 2 points and Adam Vigen rounded out the scoring with 1 point.
Dylan Selly led the team with 6 assists.
Thursday
Midway through the first half the Frazee Hornets were down just a handful of points. Unfortunately, Pelican Rapids was able to pull away and never looked back as they defeated the Hornets by a score of 66-28.
Frazee trailed by a score of 36-7 at halftime and couldn’t overtime 29 turnovers for the game against a tough Pelican Rapids defense.
The Hornets shot 25.6 percent from the field and were led offensively by Adam Vigen who scored 8 points.
Dylan Selly and Nathan Johannsen each scored 4 points and pulled down 4 rebounds, while Daniel Winn scored 4 points and pulled down 5 rebounds. Carter Sonnenberg scored 3 points, Asher Blaine scored 2 points and Kale Ovsak rounded out the scoring with 1 point.
Saturday
Frazee had a busy week come to a close against the fifth ranked team in Class A in New York Mills.
A high powered Eagles team took advantage of their home court advantage by shooting nearly 52 percent from the field on their way to a 69-35 win. The Hornets trailed 42-26 at halftime after NY Mills went on a late run to close out the first half.
Frazee was able to pull down 11 offensive rebounds in the game and came away with 15 steals in the loss. As a team the Hornets went 10-27 from inside the 3-point line, while going just 4-23 from the 3-point line.
Adam Vigen led the way offensively with 8 points, while Asher Blaine once again had a solid night from the field as he scored 7 points and pulled down 3 rebounds.
Mark Jaroszewski scored 6 points, while Nathan Johannsen scored 4 points to go along with 5 rebounds. Dylan Selly scored 4 points, Kale Ovsak scored 2 points and had 4 assist and George Flynn and Carter Sonnenberg each scored 2 points.
