Frazee to host DGF on Thursday night

The Frazee Hornets dropped a pair of games in Heart O’ Lakes Conference action last week. On Tuesday the Hornets fell to Perham by a score of 59-38, before dropping a games to Hawley by a score of 65-35 on Thursday night.

This week the Hornets will travel to Park Christian on Monday night, before hosting Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton on Thursday. 

The Hornets are currently 3-13 on the season and 0-9 in the conference. 

Jan. 18

Frazee fell to Battle Lake in non-conference action by a score of 50-18 on Jan. 18. The Hornets trailed by a score of 30-9 at halftime as both teams struggled a bit from the field throughout the game. The Hornets were able to pull down 39 rebounds in the loss with 16 of them coming on the offensive end of the court. 

Jayden Sonnenberg led the Hornets in scoring with 4 points, while Riyan Eckert and Hailee Olson chipped in with 3 points. Kate Vigen, Malena Mahoney, Kaidence Mayfield and Autumn Hiemenz rounded out the scoring with 2 points. 

Jan. 20

Frazee overcame an early deficit and outscored perennial power Pelican Rapids by a 24-22 margin in the second half. Unfortunately, the Hornets couldn’t overcome their 38-26 halftime deficit as they fell to the Vikings by a score of 60-50.

The Hornets had a solid night from the field as they shot 50 percent and went 14-26 from inside the 3-point line. They also hit six 3-pointers in the game. The two teams were fairly even across the board in terms of rebounds, second chance points and points in the paint. The only two big differences came from turnovers in which the Hornets had 27 and free throws as the Vikings shot and made 7 more free throws.

Annika Reierson led the way offensively with 16 points on a perfect 7-7 shooting from the field. She also went 2-2 from behind the 3-point line.

Kiley Karger and Jayden Sonnenberg each scored 7 points, while Riyan Eckert scored 5 points, Kate Vigen scored 4 points, Malena Mahoney, Hailey Selly and Brynn Larson each scored 3 points and Madison Olson rounded out the scoring with 2 points. 

Tuesday

After falling to Perham by a score of 63-24 earlier this season, the Frazee Hornets were able to stick with the Yellowjackets throughout much of the first half on Tuesday night. The Hornets trailed by a score of 26-17 at halftime, but ended up losing the game by a score of 60-38, or just 22 points this time around. 

The Hornets made the most of their offensive rebounds as they finished with 14 second chance points and had 9 steals in the game. 

Jayden Sonnenberg had a big game for the Hornets as she scored 17 points off of just 5-10 shooting from the field. Annika Reierson and Kiley Karger each finished with 7 points, while Madison Olson scored 3 points, Brynn Larson scored 2 and Riyan Eckert and Kaidence Mayfield rounded out the scoring with 1 point apiece. 

Thursday

In a game in which Hawley could hardly miss from the field, Frazee fell to the Nuggets by a score of 65-36. Frazee shot nearly 30 percent from the field, but Hawley finished with a blistering 54.3 percent shooting and went 9-19 from behind the 3-point line.

The Hornets trailed 42-17 at halftime, but were able to keep pace with the Nuggets in the second half as they were outscored just 23-19 in the final 18 minutes of action.

Annika Reierson led the charge offensively as the senior went 4-8 from behind the 3-point line to finish with 12 points. Hailey Selly scored 7 points and Kiley Karger finished with 6 points. Brynn Larson scored 4 points, Jayden Sonnenberg and Malena Mahoney each scored 3 points and Riyan Eckert rounded out the scoring with 1 point.
