NY Mills Cultural Center to host concert

Flutist Linda Chatterton and harpist Rachel Brandwein will be giving a concert on Thursday, March 3 at 7:30 p.m. in the intimate visual arts gallery space of the New York Mills Regional Cultural Center.  

  Their concert will have a mix of classical and folk music, with a special piece of music inspired by a piece of NY Mills’ history. Chatterton and Brandwein will also be performing for music students in grades 5-12 at the NY Mills Public School and residents of Mills Manor as part of this Minnesota State Arts Board funded residency, brought to the community by the New York Mills Regional Cultural Center.

Chatterton and Brandwein have been performing together since 2013. Their collaboration has included concert tours in the US and the Far East, including a Minnesota State Arts Board Arts Tour grant to present concert and educational residencies in four greater Minnesota communities, including NY Mills. Their repertoire encompasses traditional concert repertoire for flute and harp, their own arrangements for flute and harp of classical, folk and contemporary works, and new works written for them.

“The kind of performance that sparks wild standing ovations. Definitive,” said Chatterton. 

A Powell Flute Artist, soloist and teacher, she has performed and given master classes at prestigious locations throughout Europe, Asia and the US including Carnegie Hall, St. Martins-in-the-Field in London and the Moscow Conservatory. A two-time McKnight Artist prize winner, she received her Master of Music degree from the University of Minnesota her Bachelor of Music degree from the Eastman School of Music. She has released seven recordings.

Brandwein is the winner of the 2014 Mu Phi Epsilon International Solo Competition. She has toured the United States and Asia as a soloist, chamber musician, and concerto soloist. Brandwein is on faculty at St. Olaf College and Luther College. 

Among her performance and composition accomplishments are first prizes and grants in numerous regional and national competitions sponsored by the American Harp Society, the American String Teachers Association, and Mu Phi Epsilon International Music Fraternity. Brandwein earned degrees from the University of Michigan (BM), The Juilliard School (MM), and Stony Brook University (DMA). 

Tickets are $10 for adults ($2 member discount) or $5 for students. Tickets can be purchased online or at the door the night of the concert. Light refreshments available. COVID safety guidelines observed. Please stay home if ill.
