Notes from the Chief

A couple of Thursdays ago we sold the heifer calves. We took a nice trip to Bagley, Minn. on some icy roads.  That is not fun when hauling 15,000 pounds of beef in a 30-foot trailer.

We got to the sales barn, unloaded the heifers and went inside. We weren’t there but a few minutes and they came through the ring.  Sometimes a person can wait hours for their animals to come through, so we got lucky that day.  We were also very close to the tail end of the sale as we were slowed down by the slippery roads.

This trip wasn’t as bad as the one in January when we were hauling the steers. We have been taking the Shell Lake Road to Bagley, Minn.  but that may change. After the calves sold, and we were having lunch, I searched on the map of a route back to Frazee. It turns out going west to Fosston, Minn. then Winger, Minn. and onto Hwy 59 to Detroit Lakes is only 12 minutes longer.  Mostly state roads meaning drier pavement and easier sailing. I will keep that in mind when we sell in a year or so.

Calving season is slowly approaching. Hopefully the weather will be above freezing for the most part.  Have a nice week.
