Frazee High School’s robotics program, in its fifth year of existence, won the regional championship and earned its second invite to the world championship in St. Louis. The first year the team entered the world competition was in the program’s first year. Robotics advisor Andrew Paulson explained the initial opportunity came because Frazee’s robotic program won the Rookie All-Star title.

For those who attend the Frazee Sportsman’s Club’s event on Saturday, March 11 at the Frazee Event Center, there is a good chance of going home with a prize. Frazee Sportsman’s Club member Ashley Renollet shared there are tons of door prizes that will be given out to those in attendance. She revealed some of those prizes include a gift certificate for a permit to carry class, a Minnesota Vikings jacket, Adirondack chairs and much more.

The opportunity to have a family or business name at what will be Vergas’ newest tourist attraction is fleeting. The Vergas Trail Committee is set to build an elegant planter made of bricks that will be placed along the Long Lake Trail extension at a scenic overlook of the lake. The deadline to purchase a tax-deductible brick is April 15, as the order will be placed May 1.

Some signs of spring will be evident a little early. March 10-14, businesses and individuals will help the American Cancer Society (ACS) celebrate Daffodil Days. The nationwide fund-raiser has been held annually since 1981. In Minnesota alone, 2,000,000 fresh-cut daffodils will be rushed in by air transport. Last year, the state organization’s proceeds after costs were $818,000, and the goal for 1997 is $850,000. The funds help the ACS provide a variety of programs and services that reach all the way to the local level.

The Vergas City Council will meet in special session to review a liquor issue. During a special Feb. 7 election, residents approved the issue by three votes, which would allow the city to issue intoxicating on-sale liquor licenses. During Monday night’s meeting, the council was given a proposed city ordinance on the issue for review. At tonight’s special meeting, that ordinance will be reviewed for possible passage.

A telephone call was received by Don Eveslage, Frazee High School principal shortly after 8 a.m. Friday. A man’s voice warned the principal that a bomb had been planted in the school and would explode at 9 a.m. sharp.

Superintendent Carl Ingebrigtson acted quickly to the anonymous call and ordered Frazee’s senior high, junior high, and elementary schools to close immediately and have all the students sent home. Some pupils had already arrived at school and were told to go home. Others were just arrived at school and were told to go home. Others were just arriving on busses which were turned around to take children back to their homes.

Within minutes Frazee policemen, Becker County Sheriff Jim Larson and county deputies converged at the high school. Members of the Frazee Fire Department were alerted, and a man was also called in from the State Crime Bureau at Fergas Falls.

Fortunately, as everyone had hoped, the bomb threat proved to be a hoax. The law enforcement officers and firemen conducted a two-hour search of all rooms and lockers—no bomb was found.

Supt. Ingebrigtson said the day of school missed by the bomb threat will be made up during the spring vacation, which has been scheduled March 27 through April 3. It was announced that the day will be made up on Monday, March 27.
