The Frazee Liquor Store needs help to get its bottles in a row. Tami Jo Hopwood has been managing the facility for about a month and a half now, and last month recommended the council approve paying bills associated with the complex at the end of each month, as opposed to waiting until the council meeting. At the liquor store committee meeting, she explained that was a good decision as the day after the council approved the change; the store was barred from ordering any new products until the bills were paid.

The Frazee Fire Department is hosting its annual fundraiser and live auction on Saturday, March 25 at the Frazee Event Center. The fun gets underway at 5:30 p.m. with a preview of the items that will be up for bids during the live auction, as well as many silent auction items..

The Frazee FFA Small and Companion Animal team placed second at Region 1 competition and will advance to state competition, which is held in St. Paul. Regions were held March 8 in Crookston. Individuals placing included

: Harley Stroburg placing fourth, Jamie Kiehl getting sixth, Katelyn Mack 12th, Charlee Putnam 13th and Hailley Brune, 25th. Students in the competition are tested on their knowledge of various breeds of companion animals, animal physiology, anatomy and problem solving. Thirteen teams from across northwestern Minnesota were at the competition.

Two area plant enthusiasts are gearing up to start a large garden center in Frazee. Diane Trieglaff, 50, Frazee, and Russell Richter, 40, Vergas, are teaming up to open “Field Stone Gardens” by April 15. The new business will be located in the former Frazee city shop near the goose pond on West Main Avenue. The venture won’t be just an ordinary garden center. Some of the more exceptional non-plant items will include ponds and accessories, fountains, statuaries such as pelicans, ducks, etc., wrought iron works and ceramic pots.

The public is invited to meet Frazee’s newest business people at an event set from 5:30-7 p.m. on Saturday at the Third Crossing Trading Co’s new headquarters at 305 West Main. The Frazee Community Club will be hosting Business After Hours for townspeople to meet the new business people in an informal setting. The location is the former city shop near the goose pond on Main Avenue.

After striving to meet her students’ needs, it’s now Kathy Peichel’s turn to feel special. Last Tuesday, this third grade teacher was selected as Frazee-Vergas’ Teacher of the Year. Nominations had been made by the public during recent Parent-Teacher conferences. The top four nominees were voted on by their peers in the Frazee Education Association (FEA). The announcement was made at the end of the FEA’s monthly meeting, but Peichel didn’t hear the good news until later that afternoon. Then and again the next day in school, she expressed that there are so many other excellent teachers in the school system.

March 19-25 has been designated National FHA Week. The members of Future Homemakers of America will carry out special activities and observances designed to share their experiences and achievements with family, friends and neighbors. The theme chosen for this year’s National FHA Week is “Profiles of Youth” to focus attention on what over half-a-million young men and women are doing to improve personal, family, and community living.

Cynthia McCollum, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Duane Holmer of Frazee, has been accepted at the Lutheran Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing in Minneapolis where she will begin her RN training this fall.

The Frazee Golf Association is planning a Pancake and Sausage Feed and Game Party on Friday evening, April 7 at the school. Serving is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. Keep this night open for an evening of fun.

The Frazee area variety show was held Saturday night. Winners in the vocal event were the Burlington Cubs in a club presentation “I’d Like to Teach the World to Sing” for first and second place went to the Silverleaf Gophers with their club singing “Put Your Hand in the Hand.”
