Notes from the Chief

Cow hand notes…Not much for calving action this week with only one new calf on the ground. This calf is from a first calf heifer and she seems to have plenty of milk for the little one. 

The sure sign test of a healthy calf is to feel its nose. If the nose is warm, all is good. If the nose is cold, something is wrong. A simple, quick way to check on the calf. 

Another way to tell if the calf is healthy is how active it is. If you can’t catch a calf, it probly ain’t too sick. By the time you read this our main herd should be well into the calving. A check on them on last Thursday had them all content and only a few starting to bag up. Hopefully the snow will be gone and we can move them from their winter-feeding area to a nice clean pasture for calving.

Friday, March 25

12:43 p.m. Driving complaint on US 10, wrong way driver. Unable to locate.

7:14 p.m. Vehicle unlock at the gas station.

11:28 p.m. Assist with a medical.

Saturday, March 26

6:14 p.m. Assist other agency with a death notification in town.

6:40 p.m. Assist with a domestic assault incident that happened in DL. One person lives in town and one in DL.

9:32 p.m. Disturbance reported with male resident wanting a female removed from his home. Female was very emotional and left on her own.

10:29 p.m. Assist with a medical.

Tuesday, March 29

2:19 p.m. School reporting harassment between a couple of students. No criminal activity, school will handle the issue.

4:23 p.m. Father reporting his daughter being harassed at school. 

7:29 p.m. Assist with serving trespass notice paperwork.

9:31 p.m. Assist with and remove debris from the roadway on US 10.

11:47 p.m. Noise complaint on E Main. Officer drove through the area. UTL.

Wednesday, March 30

12:39 p.m. License plates picked up that were found in the car wash.

12:43 p.m. Report of graffiti/vandalism at the high school.

8:28 p.m. Assist with a rear-wheel-drive vehicle that was stuck on a slight incline after the nice dumping of snow. Officer used the squad car’s push bumper to give a gentle nudge.

Thursday, March 31

5:40 p.m. Suspicious activity reported on 2nd St SE. Caller was at work and got some phone calls that there were people in cars in the area going up to people’s houses. Fourth party information leading officer to not knowing who or what was being suspicious. Officer advised the caller to have the people who called her call into dispatch. Officer drove through the area and found nothing out of the ordinary.

6:35 p.m. Assist with a traffic complaint on US Hwy 10. Phillip Clow, 40, Lake Park arrested for DWI by Otter Tail County deputy.
