Vergas Lions Club members stayed busy making pancakes on Saturday morning at the Vergas Community Center. Maple syrup was the selection of the day on Saturday as the Vergas community celebrated the annual Maple Syrup Festival. The day began with the always popular Vergas Lions pancake breakfast in the morning, before giving way to the 5k, maple leaf search and horse drawn rides throughout downtown Vergas. Meanwhile, at Maplewood State Park near Pelican Rapids, maple syrup making demonstrations were held throughout the morning and early afternoon. The Maple Syrup Festival 5k kicked off on Saturday morning with dozens of people participating in the event. Horse drawn rides were one of the highlights of the ever-popular Maple Syrup Festival in Vergas on Saturday. The horse drawn rides started near the community center and went through downtown Vergas. Volunteers at Maplewood State Park near Pelican Rapids held a number of demonstrations on how to make maple syrup and harvest some of the maple sugar from the center of a tree.
