Notes from the Chief

Notes from the Farm….We are up to 46 cows that have come in. Or is it 45? The last cow to calve may have had twins and one twin is being adopted by a different cow or mama has abandoned that calf. 

By the time they were checked on, it was too dark to make smart decisions while trying to herd cows in the dark. I will have to double check them in the morning to see who belongs to who.

There were a total of five new babies on Thursday. I think six is our record in one day.  

We separated one twin from its mama and will be bottle-feeding that calf. This will allow mama to make sure she has enough milk to raise a strong calf. Raising twins may result in both calves being small and add extra stress to mama.  

We did sell two more cows this week as well as two 4-year-old bulls. One cow had a set of twins a long time ago and we finally got her in the corral and separated from the herd. The other cow that went was a first calf heifer that did not have adequate milk. That makes seven out of the 11 first calf heifers that did not have enough milk.  

The latest heifer to have a calf seems to have a nice supply of milk for her baby.  

I am still leaning on the ration the heifers were fed 18 months ago as to why they have no milk.  

The only other explanation is that all seven heifers were from the same bull and genetics played a part in their demise.  

Friday, April 15

7:56 a.m. Complaint from concerned neighbor that a strange smell was coming from across the hall. Neighbor saw the other neighbor so they didn’t think they were deceased. Officer talked with alive neighbor who told him that they were canning and some spilled over and the smell was quite bad.

11:16 a.m. Report of someone using a handicap placard that belongs to their deceased mother.  Under investigation.

12:19 p.m. Landlord complaint about former tenants trashing his house. Charges for criminal damage are pending.

12:40 p.m. Report of a violation of a court order. Joshua Bailey, 31, Dent taken into custody a couple of days later.

Sunday, April 17

7:28 p.m. Female reporting that she lost her house key and would like extra patrol in her neighborhood.

9:42 p.m. Assist with a disturbance on 110th St.

11:44 p.m. Noise complaint on E. Main Ave with a woman in front of building singing and dancing. Officer did not hear any noise while in the area.

Monday, April 18

10:13 p.m. Report that someone may have been rapidly turning the doorknob, like someone was trying to get in. Officer did not see anyone in the area.

Tuesday, April 19

8:57 a.m. Requested to be in the area of the high school for a parent meeting as the parents have a history of getting disorderly. Parents did not show up.

10:03 p.m. Assist with a medical.

Wednesday, April 20

7:54 a.m. Report of an assault. Laderia Davies, 36, Frazee, arrested for violation of a court order and 5th Degree Assault.

11:48 a.m. Report of another court order violation by Joshua Bailey adding to the previous charges.

12:00 p.m. Assist with a medical, canceled.

12:11 p.m. Assist with a medical, patient transported this time.

1:21 p.m. Report of neighbors harassing neighbors again.

2:06 p.m. Report of a dad picking up his kids and mom is wondering if he can do that per the court order. Civil issue until there is a court order in place.

6:32 p.m. Question about driving with an expired license and how long they had to renew the license. Officer gave the advice to drive up to the first cop he sees, preferably a state trooper, and ask them to run your license. That would get you an answer in a quick hurry.

9:11 p.m. Report of a stolen vehicle. Vehicle was towed the day prior due to being parked in a handicap zone and using a fraudulent handicap placard.  

10:02 p.m. Report of a wrong way driver on US 10. Unable to locate.

Thursday, April 21

3:08 p.m. Assist at the high school with an unruly student. Student did not pose a threat.

3:34 p.m. Assist with a medical which turned into a death.

8:44 p.m. Female reporting that her estranged husband was in their house and he has been moved out for a few weeks.

12:00 a.m. Cell phone found on W Main Ave. Can be identified and picked up at the police station.

12:00 a.m. Assist with a medical.

12:04 a.m. A set of keys were found at the Frazee Rest Area and turned into the Becker County Sheriff’s Department.
