The Frazee Municipal Liquor Store’s on-sale establishment is looking to rebrand, and name suggestions are being sought. Manager Tami Jo Hopwood informed the Frazee Council during its monthly meeting May 8, the long-time name of the bar, Third Crossing, hasn’t caught on as people still refer to the establishment as the liquor store. She suggested hosting a contest to gather possible names for the business and the council agreed that would be a good idea.

Refuse service costs in Frazee are increasing for the second straight month. Last month the council approved a $1 increase and in May 70 cents was added to the total. The $1 April increase is due to back taxes as the city had not taxed residents for garbage services. The more recent 70 cent increase is needed to pay for the 96 gallon recycling bins Becker County is requiring cities to purchase at a cost of $3,346.

The Frazee City Council is set to remove the metal ramp attached to the Baer Building on the corner of Main Avenue and Lake Street if the building owner, Michael Mercil, doesn’t do so before June 2. The city attorney informed the council at its monthly meeting on May 8 that necessary steps were taken to begin abatement proceedings. He explained a letter informing Mercil of the removal request was sent. If the ramp remained, a public hearing would be set in mid-June.

Frazee-Vergas School Board member Nancy Dashner made a big push for an additional high school counselor at Monday’s board meeting. In opening discussion regarding the matter, Dashner made a motion to hire a counselor for grades 7-12, which was later tabled after a committee was formed to review the motion in detail. A committee of Dashner, Shirley Hintermeister and Lowell Bradbury met with high school principal Russell Robinson Tuesday morning and plan to come back to the 8 p.m., Tuesday, May 20 board meeting with a review of ideas.

The Frazee Volunteer Fire Department’s rescue truck ready for emergencies thanks to donations and the proceeds from the May 4 consignment auction. Over $5,300 in needed equipment to outfit the rescue truck is in the process of being purchased. Included in the equipment purchase is: set of lift bags $3,400; light bar and siren $1,200; two hand-held radios $1,550; vehicle radio $694; extrication tool hook-up junction box $1,500; and 200-gallon water tank for grass pickup $400.

Local residents will now find new services available at Heisler’s Country Store, with the recent addition of Heisler’s Country Oil. The addition of the new business, located adjacent to the store one mile south of Vergas at the intersection of CR 4 and CR 130, will offer customers an even wider range of products and services, said owner Marv Heisler. Whether a shopper’s needs include fuel, groceries, car maintenance or wash, fishing bait or bedding plants, Heilser is determined to meet those demands.

Kathy Palmer, a Frazee High School senior band majorette, was chosen second runnerup in the WDAY Band Festival queen pageant held Saturday at Fargo. Gail Hebert, Shanley High School homecoming queen last fall, was chosen the new band festival queen, while Carol Mjolsness of Glyndon-Felton high school was named first runnerup.

The Frazee golf course clubhouse was broken into sometime Saturday night. Entry was gained by breaking a window on the east side of the basement-type building. About $50 in cash was taken along with beer, cigarettes and cigars. Apparently no golf equipment or other club property was missing. Local and county officials are investigating the break in.

The Frazee Senior Chorus, the Frazee High Girl’s Choir, and the Frazee Senior High Band will present their annual Spring Concert in the Frazee High School Auditorium on Friday, May 19, at 8 p.m. The theme for their concert is “Sounds of the 70’s”. This will be their final appearance of the year except at Graduation Exercises.
