Anglers in the Frazee area have a new tackle and live bait shop on North Lake Street in Frazee, tucked between Bender Realty and the Hair Style Studio. Prime Time Bait and Supplies held a soft opening on Friday, May 19, but has a grand opening planned for when the store is fully stocked.

On Saturday, May 20, 50 bow fishers headed out to lakes in the counties of Becker and Otter Tail and returned in the early dawn of the following day with about 10,000 pounds of carp. The big carp catch was part of the Frazee Sportsman’s Club annual carp tournament, in which each of the 14 teams picked six fish to be weighed, and the team with the most weight won the top cash prize.

Confetti and silly string went flying after Supt. Terry Karger gave his closing speech and presented the Frazee High School Class of 2017.

Tuesday, Frazee-Vergas School District voters approved a $1.4 million bond issue to replace the 1926 building. The proposal received 294 favorable votes while 183 “no” votes were cast for a 62 percent approval; a majority was needed to pass the bond issue. Under the plan, the demolition of the 1908 building would start June 16 and continue to the 1926 building.

Ideas flowed for the betterment of Frazee during the Community Pride meeting Wednesday, May 14. Over 70 people, representing rural, city and business, were at the meeting to brainstorm on ideas to improve the town. Many of the brainstorming groups formed Community Pride committees during the meeting, in an effort to take ideas one step further for possible implementation.

The Frazee-Vergas School Board approved the hiring of an additional school counselor at Tuesday’s meeting. Responsibilities for the new counselor would include School To Work/career and personal counseling. The motion passed unanimously, with the district intending to seek applications soon.

Mrs. Elsie Kickland proudly displayed a special award presented to her on Saturday night by the Frazee Jaycees in appreciation of her services to the local chapter.

The Singing Sextette from Millar Memorial Bible Institute, Pambrun, Sask. Canada will be at the First Baptist Church in Frazee Tuesday, May 30, at 7:30 p.m. Everyone welcome.

The Sunday School of the United Methodist Church of Frazee will begin their summer recess following a song fest and watermelon picnic, which will be held on the Church lawn Sunday, May 28 from 9:30-10:30 a.m.

Thomas Keith Rice, 16 of Frazee, died Sunday evening, May 21, 1972 at St. Lukes Hospital in Fargo from injuries received in a motorcycle accident on Sunday afternoon. The youth was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Allen Rice, who operates a dairy farm in Burlington Township near Frazee. He was injured when the cycle he was riding collided with a car driven by Emmett White of Detroit Lakes. White was not injured. The accident happened at the intersection of old Highway 10, which is now state Highway 87, and a Burlington Township road, about 2 miles west of Frazee.

Vergas School in the Frazee-Vergas school system is one of the 193 schools in Minnesota participating in the tree planting program sponsored by the Minnesota Forest Industries, the Department of Education, and the Department of Conservation. A total of 20,875 seedling spruce and Norway pine are being distributed this year. The tree planting was initiated in 1968. This year’s program will bring  the number of trees planted by fourth graders throughout Minnesota to 74,585.
