The Frazee United Methodist Church plans to provide the community with a large garden space at the lot it owns in Red Willow Heights. The lot was purchased with the intent for a new church to be built, but while the congregation waits, a few church members thought it would be wise to put the earth to good use.

The Conservation Corps of Minnesota is working its way down the Otter Tail River, removing log jams and fallen trees. Frazee Mayor Hank Ludtke was at Riverside Park in Frazee Wednesday, May 24 to welcome the three-person crew. Ludtke has been a member of the Adopt a River program the past eight years and organizes volunteer efforts to clean debris from the banks of the river and the river bottom. He added the Sentence to Serve program also assists by cleaning the areas used for tubing.

Frazee-Vergas Heart O’Lakes VFW Post 7702 members are proud to announce the recent election of Darwin (Darby) Nundahl as the post’s new Commander in Chief. Former Commander, Larry Quade of Frazee, passed the gavel to Nundahl on May 25 as he was sworn in as the new commander. Nundahl graduated in 1987 from Perham High School. After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and served with honor in the Gulf War. He also spent two years overseas in Marine Security Forces in Japan.

The send-off party for Miss Frazee 1996, Missy Hintermeister will be Sunday in the Frazee High School commons at 7 p.m. Included in the evening’s entertainment will be talent presentations by Hintermeister, Miss Vergas 1996 Melissa Kroshus, Angie Roiko and Amber Estenson.

Suzzanne Jones, rural Vergas, has garnered a place for her photos in the homes of Lake Region Electric Cooperative (LREC) users. Two of Jones’ photos won the recent LREC 1998 calendar contest and will appear in the cooperative’s calendar for next year.

Rural Frazee newcomers George and Mary Seiler have a simple, but effective plan. By range feeding and hand-processing chickens, the Seilers are offering a high-quality product that answers the needs many consumers have for fresh, non-factory-produced poultry. Their business, called George and Mary’s Best Darn Chickens “Round” concentrates, George said, “on growing the best chicken we can grow.”

Frazee’s girls 880-yard relay team won that event in 1:50.1 and set a meet record of 1:49.9 in the preliminaries, in the first Minnesota girls high school track meet on Saturday at St. Cloud. International Falls and White Bear Lake shared the championship with 20 points each; Virginia placed third with 15, and Moorhead finished fourth with 12 points.

Five graduating seniors were granted Daggett Scholarships at the Class Night Program held at Frazee High School on Friday, May 26. They were Cathy Fuchs, Marianne Kohler, Cynthia McCollum, Rachel Schaefer and Duane Estensen. These were scholarships consisting of awards of $500 each, granted to seniors of Frazee-Vergas High School whose purpose is to help the recipients further their education.

The 103 graduating seniors of Frazee-Vergas High School cordially invite the public to attend commencement exercises to be held Friday, June 2 at 8 p.m. at the high school auditorium.

VFW Post 7702 of Frazee recently presented a flag to the Frazee-Vergas High School Band. Making the presentation for the Post was Commander Walt Lenius, while Paul Dretsch accepted the flag for the band.
