Notes from the Chief

As you read below, I had a call about a dead animal in the roadway. I got a call from a friend, let’s call him Slappy. Slappy told me that there was a dead raccoon in the roadway. I happened to see said deceased raccoon an hour or so earlier. It was just another roadkill raccoon that no one had scooped up for the cooker yet. Slappy told me that it looked like it was a younger animal and I saw that it was a little on the small side. What Slappy told me next is what brings the mayonnaise to the sammich in this story.  

Slappy told me that there were a couple more raccoons next to the carcass. I went out to the area and saw that yes, indeed there were 3 other juvenile raccoons huddled next to their brother, all cute in their mourning. They were holding tight and barely made it to the edge of the road as I pulled up. 

A couple other cars drove up and almost squished one or two of the cute little buggers. I took the deceased Rocky Raccoon and gently tossed him in the ditch hoping that the others would congregate in the ditch and not on the road. I did see the next day that the others were still playing in the road. I slowed down as there were a couple of other cars there too. 

Wouldn’t you know it; one of the kits got smucked by an oncoming vehicle. Moral of the story…Don’t be a Slappy and don’t play in the street. Have a nice week!

Friday, July 1

4:51 p.m. I was tracked down by a group of teenage girls on a scavenger hunt. The girls needed a picture with an officer.  They also said they needed to be handcuffed to which I replied, you can always ask your parents to borrow their handcuffs.

8:36 p.m. Assist with a suspicious vehicle in the county. Owner was not around.

2:53 a.m. Male and female out for a walk. Officer kept them from entering a private business area.

Saturday, July 2

5:06 p.m. Assist with a medical.

5:59 p.m. Female reported filling out a rental application that may have been part of a scam.  The contact for the online application was different from the owner of the property.

8:23 p.m. Assist motorist with a car vs deer crash. The car won.

2:18 a.m. Assist with a report of shots fired in the county. Turned out to be a juvenile party that got out of hand. Some out-of-towners put the boots to some local kids. So many different stories, it was hard to tell who was telling the truth.

Sunday, July 3

5:59 a.m. Report of an assault that happened the night before. Under investigation.

Monday, July 4

10:28 a.m. Report of some dogs not playing nice with other dogs.

6 p.m. Assist with a motorcycle vs. deer crash on St Hwy 87.

Tuesday, July 5

4:02 p.m. Assist with a motorist on County Rd 118.

6:28 p.m. Report of a water leak in an alley. Public works notified.

10:42 p.m. Assist with a report of fireworks at Eagle Lake Park. Unable to Locate.

Wednesday, July 6

10:38 a.m. Dog turned herself in on warrants at the PD. Dog was returned to its human.

11:48 a.m. Assist public works with traffic control downtown.

9:26 p.m. Remove animal carcass from Co Hwy 29.  

10:02 p.m. Assist with a suspicious vehicle at Four Corners.

11:51 p.m. Assist with a medical.

Thursday, July 7

8:10 a.m. Graffiti reportedly spray painted on the bridge on E Main Ave. Officer tracked down the two teenage girls who signed their names to the artistry. They will be tasked with painting over their artwork.

1:20 p.m. Male reporting that a female is contacting his friends and she has a restraining order against him. Male told to just avoid the female.

5:33 p.m. Report of a dog at large who snapped at a female. Leroy Conklin, 30, Frazee cited for Dog at Large.

7:59 p.m. Ongoing issue of a loose/aggressive dog. Dog was impounded.

10:06 p.m. Assist deputy with a traffic stop that turned into a DWI on Co Hwy 31.
