Saturday evening at the Miss Frazee pageant during the 63rd annual Frazee Turkey Days celebration, friends and family of pageant contestants were treated to a show filled with talent, beauty and brains mixed with laughter and tears for an emotional night at Frazee High School. Hailey Jutz was crowned Miss Frazee 2017 and Sophie Nelson was named Miss Frazee’s Outstanding Teen 2017.
The former furniture building on Main Avenue may have the first wrecking ball swing toward it in the next three weeks, according to Frazee City Administrator Denise Anderson. During the Frazee Economic Development Authority’s monthly meeting on Tuesday, July 25, the group discussed options for filling the space after the EDA purchases it from Becker County. Anderson added the sale price was not know, but assured the EDA the county representatives she spoke with said the EDA would have first option to purchase the land.

Pageant veteran Melissa Bunkowske, age 19 of Vergas, was crowned Miss Frazee 1997. Five contestants competed for the honor at Saturday’s pageant at Frazee High School auditorium. Jamie Wallace was named first runner-up and Heather Carr earned the second runner-up title.
The Jr. King and Queen pageant will kick off the Wolf Lake Harvest Festival on Friday at 7 p.m., at the Wolf Lake Lions Community hall. Other Friday festivities include the Miss Wolf Lake Pageant and a street dance with DJ Jimmy Anderson from 8:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.
The 1926 Frazee School time capsule was opened Sunday, revealing three Frazee newspapers, 10 pennies, a square nail and an information sheet from the school board. The capsule from the 1926 building was saved from the building demolition and opened during the annual Turkey Days turkey luncheon at the fire hall.

The Red Cross swimming certificates will be sent to the Vergas Bank the first part of September. There will be an announcement when they arrive and students of Mrs. Joan Happel and Jean Bruhn’s swimming classes can pick them up at the Bank.
The July 13 meeting of the Rocky Hillside 4-H club was called to order by adult president Vern Moltzan at 8:10 p.m. We said our club and flag pledges. The adult songleaders led us in “This Old Man,” “That 4-H Spirit” and “Happy Birthday” to all those who have birthdays in July.
Information on the summer Head Start program will be forwarded soon to the Frazee-Vergas Independent School District so that teachers in the district may become better acquainted with Head Start youngsters who will be enrolling in the system for 1972-73. The Head Start program was conducted in six centers in a three-county area by the sponsoring Mahube Community Council and staff members currently are in the process of completing follow-up work for their reports to the schools involved.
