Boy nearly drowns in Sand Lake

A 70-year-old Elbow Lake motorcyclist was killed in a crash on County Road 4 southwest of Vergas Monday, Aug. 1.

George Hough was eastbound on County Road 4 when he drifted over the centerline and entered the northernmost ditch, according to the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office.

The motorcycle continued through the ditch and crashed into Lawrence Lake.

An eye witness at the scene immediately removed Hough from the water before calling 911.

Members of the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office, along with Vergas Rescue and Pelican Ambulance responded to the call and provided lifesaving efforts at the scene.

Hough was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

According to the report, Hough may have suffered a medical emergency before the crash.

The incident remains under investigation by the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office.

Detroit Lakes man dies after I-94 accident

A Detroit Lakes man injured in a crash on Interstate 94 in Fargo on Friday July 29, died from his injuries on Monday, Aug. 1.

According to the highway patrol, a pickup driven by Reed Satrom, 71, rear-ended a semi in the middle lane of Interstate 94 near a construction zone by University Drive. The semi was slowing down due to the construction when the pickup struck the rear of the semi-trailer and immediately started on fire.

The Friday July 29 crash happened at approximately 3:50 p.m.

Both Satrom and a passenger, Everett Northup, 53, also of Detroit Lakes, were seriously injured and brought to Sanford Medical Center in Fargo. Satrom was airlifted to a Twin Cities hospital later on Friday. 

As of Tuesday, Aug. 2, Northup remained at Sanford Hospital in stable condition.

Brant Jacobson, 45, of Harwood, North Dakota, the semi driver was not injured, according to the Highway Patrol.

Boy nearly drowns in Sand Lake

A two-year-old boy was found by his family face-down in the water on Sand Lake, north of Pelican Rapids Sunday, July 31.

The incident was reported late morning on Sunday at a lake home. Members of families at the home noticed the boy’s absence and began a search finding him near shore in the water.

A 42-year-old firefighter from South Dakota who happened to be with the group immediately began CPR while others called 911.

According to a report from Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office, the firefighter’s training and experience proved essential in the life-saving efforts.

Those efforts were performed for approximately one minute before the child began to breathe again prior to the arrival of first-responders.

The boy was transported to the hospital for treatment in stable condition.

The Otter Tail County Sheriff’s office, deputies, Ringdahl Ambulance and the Pelican Rapids police department responded to the scene.
