The Frazee Economic Development Authority purchased the former furniture store lot from Becker County for $26,500 during a special meeting on Wednesday, Aug. 16. When the demolition is finished the lot will be level with all of the footings removed. Special assessments remaining on the property total $2,834 and there was talk of having the city forgive that amount.

New royalty was crowned Friday night at the Miss Wolf Lake pageant during the 34th annual Wolf Lake Harvest Festival as friends and family of the contestants filled the Lions Hall. Gabe Splonskowski was crowned Miss Wolf Lake 2017, Kodian Harris was named Jr. Miss Wolf Lake 2017, and Akaiya Birky is Little Miss Wolf Lake.

The Frazee-Vergas School District was asked to share Community Education Coordinator Kitti Kivi-Lex with the Perham district. During the Monday, Aug. 14 monthly meeting, Superintendent Terry Karger said prior to hiring Kivi-Lex the two districts discussed sharing a coordinator, but ultimately Frazee went it alone as the district found a qualified candidate. Now, Perham is in need of a coordinator, Karger reported.

The scramble is on to get Frazee schools ready for first day of class on Tuesday, Sept. 2. A walk through the high school at this time reveals hallways filled with building materials, open walls and rooms in a jumble. The clock is ticking, but school will start on time as projects with top priority are nearing completion. Cement should be poured at the main entrance of the high school this week.

It looks as though Frazee will get a family center this year. After over a year of local planning and several changes in the Becker County Children’s Initiative’s (BCCI) basic structure, plans are now progressing. At Monday’s BCCI meeting, the board approved a $40,000 expenditure to get the new family enter in Frazee off the ground.

A planting party will be held tonight (Thursday) from 5-8 p.m. at the goose pond on Frazee’s Main Avenue. Those with perennials to donate should bring them tot he site at this time also. Plants donated will be planted in the beds at this time. Those volunteering for the planting session should bring shovels, trowels and gardening gloves.

Army worms stripped about 25 acres of Tom Trieglaff’s corn in a filed located about three miles west of Frazee recently. Trieglaff was busy getting his second hay crop in. Knowing he had adequate weed control in his field, didn’t visit the field for three weeks. When he arrived at the field he found it stripped. “It’s been a good year for feed corn, otherwise,” he said. Trieglaff speculated that it took about one week for the army worms to eat the 25 acres of corn.

Area residents are being asked to save all their old glass containers. Frazee’s Cub Scouts will be in charge of a glass recycling project in the near future. They are asking that you separate glass as to color. Bottles can have paper on them, but not metal tabs. The glass will be crushed and transported to a recycling plant.

The Frazee Village Council hired two new employees at its regular meeting on Monday. Dennis Engel is a new patrolman, replacing Ray Molten who resigned that position to go into a recreation business in Perham. Dennis is married and has one child. The council also hired Earl Adams of Frazee as a street maintenance man. Both men will begin their new duties Sept. 1.

The Frazee Fire Deptartment turned in the best time evaluation in the Firemen’s Thrill Show Friday at the Becker County Fair. It took the Frazee firemen only 50 seconds to extinguish a gasoline fire on a 16-foot tower. The next closest time to Frazee was Audubon in 70 seconds.
