Vergas community meeting canceled

A Level 3 sex offender meeting originally scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 25 in Vergas has been canceled.
According to a press release from the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office, George Joseph Hecker, age 48, was set to move into Candor Township in rural Vergas on August 28. However, on Monday afternoon the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office reported that Hecker would no longer be relocating to rural Vergas and canceled the community meeting. The meeting was set to be held at the Vergas Community Center.
Hecker is a Level 3 sex offender and a community meeting was being planned to inform the public in accordance to state statues.
