Probasco sentenced to one year and a day in prison

Andrew Duane Probasco of Frazee was sentenced in Becker County District Court Wednesday, June 29, for felony fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle.

A second felony charge of fleeing in a motor vehicle was dismissed as part of a plea agreement.

On the morning of Feb. 26, 2020, a Frazee police officer tried to pull Probasco over.

Rather than stop, Probasco, 36, drove his black Pontiac G6 through a stop sign, parked at his home and fled on foot.

Probasco’s license plate was not registered to the G6, but to another car parked at his home.

He tried to report the vehicle stolen later the same day at the Becker County Sheriff’s Office, where he was arrested.

The dropped felony charge involved an August 2019 incident where a black motorcycle was clocked traveling at 76 miles per hour in rural Becker County, according to court records.

The motorcycle sped away from the pursuing officer ending up on its side in a ditch less than two miles away. The driver fled into the woods but was later identified as Probasco.

He was apprehended in the woods by the officer.

Twice in 2021, Probasco was ordered to meet with medical personnel to determine mental competency, but refused to do so. He was ordered a third time to be examined at St. Peter State Hospital.

Probasco was sentenced to a year and a day in prison at the Minnesota Correctional Facility in St. Cloud, with credit for 364 days served, by District Court Judge Michael Fritz. Probasco was fined $50 plus $125 in court fees.
