Friday’s lunch is waiting at United Community Bank in Frazee and Perham. From 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. a midwest favorite, sloppy joes, will be served alongside delicious sides of beans, chips and a cool glass of lemonade. There will also be a bake sale from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at both banks because lunch isn’t complete until the sweet tooth is satisfied. The long-proposed crime-free rental housing ordinance is in effect today (Thursday) in Frazee. At a special Frazee City Council meeting Monday night, the council unanimously passed the ordinance. The main thrust behind the need for such an ordinance comes from other towns, which have passed similar ordinances. Of late, Frazee has noted a criminal element coming to town; most of whom have been evicted from other towns due to their crime-free rental ordinances.
The Frazee Economic Development Authority reviewed its preliminary plans for the eight-unit senior complex proposed for Frazee Monday. Grant writer Lynn Fundingsland is in the process of finalizing the grant proposal to the Minnesota Department of Trade & Economic Development.

A Frazee man and two Detroit Lakes men survived a close call with death recently when their fishing boat overturned during a storm on Cross Lake at Grand Rapids, Manitoba, about 250 miles north of Winnipeg. Five men were in the fishing party: Oldie Mayer of Frazee, Rolf Husby and Ron Saunders of Detroit Lakes, Joe Moll, Jamestown, N. D., and Dean Hermanson, Chanhassen, Minn. They went out on the lake in two boats on Sunday, Sept. 3. Husby, Mayer and Moll were in one boat; Saunders, Hermanson and a fishing guide in the other. The boats went to different parts of the lake for fishing. It began raining in the afternoon, cleared somewhat, but then the wind began blowing hard, churning up waves over 8 feet high. The boat of Mayer, Husby and Moll capsized, throwing the men into the water. Mayer and Husby had lifesavers, but the 63-year-old Moll did not. They were able to tie Moll to the boat and he was unconscious much of the time. The other two men clung to the overturned boat for about 3 1/2 hours in the rough water about eight miles from shore. In the meantime, the other boat had made it safely back to shore and a rescue boat went out to search for the missing fishermen. They were found and rescued about 6 p.m. Moll was treated at a Winnipeg hospital and it was found that water was in his lungs had caused his difficulties. The men all returned home Sept. 5.
