Open enrollment goes through December 7

It’s open enrollment for Medicare from October 15 through December 7. Now’s the time to make changes. Melissa Dahl, Otter Tail County’s Coordinator on Aging, is available to assist seniors and answer questions. Dahl is available to help with Medicare questions and Medicare enrollment.

“It’s an honor to help individuals with insurance needs and also community resources to help them live their best life as independently as possible,” said Dahl. “Please call (218) 998-8371 or reach out to me at mdahl@co.ottertail.mn.us or visit medicare.gov.”

It is always a good idea to check your plan from year to year as your needs and plans do change.  There are new changes for Medicare this year, for example, premiums will be lower on Medicare Part B and assistance may be available to lower insulin prices.

Dahl encourages seniors to make an appointment soon.

“My job is to make sure individuals’ needs are met without breaking the bank.  I provide a non-bias opinion on plans and want clients to be well informed. Last year I helped a couple to save over $300.00 by finding new drug plans,” she said.

If you live in the Perham area and have questions about Medicare open enrollment, you may also attend a “Medicare 101” presentation given by Melissa Dahl on Wednesday, Nov. 2 at 9 a.m., at Perham City Hall.

Those who are unable to attend the presentation can schedule a time to meet with Dahl on Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Public Health office at 118 Main Ave. North in New York Mills. She will be available on Wednesdays through December 7. She also has office hours in Fergus Falls at the Government Services Center.

Otter Tail County Public Health employs a Coordinator on Aging. The coordinator aids individuals aged 60 and above in Otter Tail County who need services. The coordinator is available to do home visits, meet with clubs or organizations, and do consultations by telephone or email. There are no charges for the coordinator’s services. The program is funded under contract with the Land of the Dancing Sky Area Agency on Aging as part of the Older American Act Program.
