The Vergas Planning Commission seemed to be in agreement that street work plans will be bumped back until 2019. During its monthly meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 25, the commission discussed high-priority streets, noting they include Scharf Avenue, Park View Drive, West Main Street, West Lake Street, West Linden and Third Street.

Karen Crabtree was named 2017 Woman of the Year. The Frazee resident said her achievements wouldn’t exist if it weren’t for the support she receives. The 35-year-old recently earned the respectable title from the Women 360 magazine, which is published by Detroit Lakes Newspapers.

The Main Avenue dam in Frazee is now dry. Water is only flowing over the stop gap log structure on the west side. Engineers are lowering the Otter Tail River upstream of the dam to study the effect of a dam removal. A full report is expected by March. Locals canoeing the river report that there is surprisingly little debris popping out of the river, now that the level has dropped.

Denny Anderson, Detroit Lakes, was one of five persons recently selected for the Minnesota Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame. Anderson, who spent the last 16 years of his 31-year career at Frazee High School, will be inducted into the Hall of Fame tomorrow at the Sheraton Park Place Hotel in Minneapolis.

Board members got a first-hand look at the Frazee School computers, during a special session on Monday night. With technology moving at a fast pace at Frazee Schools, and the price tag of the district’s plan set at over $1 million, many board members felt it was time to get a first hand look at the computer system.

Pooky Boo Boo Bear’s Den, Main Avenue, Frazee, closed its doors Saturday. The business is owned by Bobby and Karen Cates of Brandon, Fla. The Cates purchased the business—then called Pork’s Pub—and opened in mid-July.

The communities of Frazee and Vergas will be hosting Halloween parties this Friday. Vergas’ party will be targeted towards children of all ages, while the one in Frazee is a Halloween dance for grades 9-12.

Mr. and Mrs. Norbert Schultz will be honored at an open house for their 25th wedding anniversary at their home in Gorman Township on Sunday, Nov. 5 from 2-4 p.m. No cards are being sent and all friends and relatives are invited.

A break-in at the Wolf Lake Liquor Store last week netted burglars about $50 in cash and $450 worth of cigarettes and liquor. The burglary was reported on the morning of Oct. 25. The thieves gained entrance to the building by prying open a door.

Bethlehem Lutheran Active Christian Teens will serve a Hot Dish dinner on Sunday, Nov. 5, from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church basement. The charge is a free will offering with the proceeds going toward the new education addition. Everyone is welcome.
