Notes from the Chief
The calves are weaned and on a ration of corn silage and alfalfa hay. We have a backgrounding ration made up and we will start using that when we get our tractor out of the shop.
The ration will consist of ground alfalfa hay, corn silage, cracked corn and minerals. This batch of feed will be mixed every or every other day depending on how big of a batch of feed we can make. Studies have shown that a total mixed ration (TMR) recommended as every bite of feed is the same. This is important for the ruminant animal as it keeps their four stomachs in sync.
As of Thursday evening, we have two deer hanging in the shop. Not a lot of the cervids moving at our place. I have heard the same from many other hunters. I have been putting more time in the stands than I have in recent years, even taking a couple days off from work to enjoy the peacefulness of the deer stand.
