Frazee’s Paige Oswald had 25 assists as the second-ranked University of Jamestown volleyball team won its fourth straight Great Plains Athletic Conference postseason championship Saturday, Nov. 12, defeating No. 4 Concordia (Neb.) in four sets at Harold Newman Arena.

Jamestown improved to 31-2 with the win.

CUNE rallied from a 19-14 deficit in set one, scoring 11 of the final 13 points to take the opener 25-21. The Bulldogs outhit UJ .289 to .163 and forced the Jimmies into seven errors in the opener.

An 11-0 run in set two pushed Jamestown out to a 12-1 lead but CUNE won nine of the next 10 points to make it interesting at 13-10. The Jimmies would again open up a seven-point edge at 19-12 and held off another Bulldog rally to even the match with a 25-19 second set win.

With the score tied 13-13 in set three, UJ used a pair of kills by Anna Holen (SR/LaMoure, N.D.) and another by Darienne Johnson (JR/Eastpointe, Mich.) as part of a 4-1 run to open up a 17-14 lead. Concordia would get within a point at 17-16 only to see Jamestown finish with eight of the last 12 points to win 25-20.

The Jimmies were behind 4-2 early in the fourth set, then after tying the set at 9-9, reeled off four straight points to take the lead for good. UJ won six of the last eight points, including a pair of Bulldog hitting errors. Kalli Hegerle (SR/West Fargo, N.D.)’s fifth ace of the match clinched the victory.

Holen had 20 kills and hit .405 while Hegerle hit .462 on 14 kills and Lexi Olson (SO/Langdon, N.D.) .407 also with 14 kills. Hegerle passed out 32 assists and had 15 digs, and Paige Oswald (JR/Frazee, Minn.) added 25 assists. Anna Holen and Ellie Holen (JR/LaMoure, N.D.) each had 19 digs, and Olson finished with five total blocks.
