Peterson now faces federal gun charge

A felony gun charge has been dropped against Chad Lawrence Peterson, 50, of Frazee, in Becker County District Court.

Peterson was charged with felony illegal possession of a firearm in June, but will now face charges in federal court.

Agents from the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and the West Central Task Force received information on June 9, of guns inside a safe belonging to Peterson.

Peterson allegedly dropped the safe off with another person.

Due to a felony second-degree drug conviction, Peterson cannot legally possess guns or ammunition, according to court records.

There were 13 guns inside the safe, ammunition, and three of Peterson’s identification cards.

A warrant was issued on June 16, and bond set at $40,000 without conditions or zero with standard conditions of release.

The charge was dismissed in district court in mid-September after Peterson was indicted in Federal Court and in custody.
