While Santa heard plenty of Christmas wishes from good little girls and boys in the lakes area, he also helped a dream come true for one adult. Vergas resident Melissa Bunkowske was asked to open a gift that could not wait until Christmas. Confused, the adult daughter of Shelley and Keith Bunkowske, listed to Old Saint Nick and opened the wrapped present, which had another wrapped gift inside. After about the fifth gift inside a gift, Melissa looked up and asked, “What’s going on?” Santa let out a hearty laugh, but didn’t let on that her dream was about to come true as her boyfriend of two years was about to propose. Aaron Kroetsch of Grand Forks purchased the wedding ring about a month before Santa’s visit, and had shared romantic and memorable proposal ideas with Melissa’s sister, Amber.
