At the Northern Lights Dance Academy winter showcase Sunday, Brooklyn Riewer danced with Paige Baumgart as they gave each other “the look” in the Nightmare Before Christmas production. The 6-year-olds’ parents are Mat and Roxie Riewer, Frazee and Mike and Denelle Baumgart of Vergas.

Melander Trucking is celebrating its 10th year delivering holiday cheer to area communities with the ever-popular Santa Truck. Patty Melander noted that her husband Mike got the idea of a holiday themed big rig while living in southern Minnesota. The company they worked for provided a Santa Train that was a big hit with community members.

The Frazee Fly Girls were grateful for the comfortable ride from Anderson Bus and Coach to the HOL High Kick Conference Tournament in Wadena on Thursday, Dec. 7. With so many dancers in the program this season, the teams had to take two coach buses. The varsity high kick team won the conference championship.

Fire claimed the John and Evelyn Swenson home early Tuesday afternoon near Acorn Lake. The large home located in Burlington Park was engulfed in flames when the Frazee Fire Department arrived on the scene. The call came at about 1:30 p.m. Fireman Jerome Tappe said fire fighters from Frazee and Detroit Lakes were at the fire three hours. Tappe said the family did not have insurance on their home. “Any assistance the community can provide I’m sure would be very much appreciated,” he said. Some of the family members were inside when the fire started, but no one was injured, Tappe said. Tappe said the fire origin has not been determined at this time.

Life has a way of handing out some deals that go beyond the definition of a challenge. Several months ago, said Jim Bachleitner’s wife Bonnie, Jim “woke up one morning and his eye was swollen.” That was the beginning of, as Bonnie put it, “a battle.” Three months later, Jim is recuperating from surgery to remove a tumor behind his eye, and he’ll soon begin seven weeks of radiation therapy in Rochester. It’s been a tough situation, and some of the Bachleitners’ friends are helping them through it by holding a benefit tomorrow from 5-8 p.m. at Zee Lanes.

The annual Christmas Concert for the Frazee High School Band and Chorus will be presented on Sunday afternoon, December 17, at 3 p.m. in the Frazee High School auditorium. Groups participating will be the Concert Choir, the Concert Band, the Pop Group, a Concert Brass Ensemble, and Freshman Chorus.

Albert (Ike) Fischer of Frazee has been named president of the Becker County chapter of the Minnesota Real Estate Taxpayers Association by the board of directors. Fischer will replace Dale Anderson of Ponsford, who has resigned. Anderson has served as president of the county MRETA chapter since its beginning two years ago. Fischer, a member of the board of directors, will serve as president until a county-wide election next year.
