Notes from the Chief

Well, here we go, the first major snowfall of the year. The city guys did a great job Wednesday and Thursday and were going out again on Friday morning around 2 a.m. The PD had written only one parking citation those first two nights and I must say the streets look great when the residents help by moving their vehicles after the plow goes by. Please do your best and park off the street if you can and if you cannot, move to the other side as soon as possible.  Also do not park in the same place over and over if the plow has not cleaned the area. You will soon be parking on a hard-packed berm that the city guys will not be happy about.

Remember that there is no parking on much of Main Avenue and part of Lake Street from 2 a.m. to 6 a.m.

This parking provision was put in place a few years ago and it has made a huge difference in how our downtown looks. Please continue to abide by this to help keep our downtown clean and safe. Also remember to not blow or push snow into the streets or across the roadway as this can hamper the city, township, county, and state plow drivers. There is a state statute that prohibits placing snow in the right of way. I have talked with plow drivers who fear hitting a frozen berm/snow pile in the ditch and possibly breaking equipment. Let’s all do our part to have a safe winter.
