Scott Seim and Wesley Kropuenske reeled in a large northern pike with a big shiner minnow on Town Lake around 4 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 7. The fish measured 32.5 inches and weighed 10 pounds. The young men were about 150 feet from Seim’s dock in about 11 feet of water. Seim is in eight grade and the son of Stacy and Diane. Kropuenske is a sophmore and the son of Jason and Jessica.

Two more houses are set to be built in Frazee this year by Midwest Minnesota Community Development Corporation. MMCDC is a nonprofit company working statewide to assist communities and individuals achieve a better quality of life.

West Central Initiative granted the City of Frazee $7,500 to help pay for creating a new comprehensive plan. The Frazee Economic Development Authority and Frazee Planning Commission met Monday, Jan. 8 to review six submitted proposals.

The number of calls to the Frazee Police Department last year hit an all-time high of 879, up 12 percent form 1996. In 1996, there were 784 calls compared to 879 in 1997, an increase of 95. Chief Kelly Shannon, who has been on the force 14 years, noted 1997 calls were an all-time high for the years he’s been in the department. Of the different types of calls, vandalism increased the most—176 percent. There were 58 vandalism calls in 1997 compared to 21 in 1996.

Joseph Huseby of Frazee, also known as “Joe the Baker,” recently won $10,000 playing the Lottery’s Night on the Town instant game. This marks the second $10,000 instant game prize Huseby has won since 1992. This time, he made the purchase at Larson’s Jack & Jill; in 1992 the lucky ticket came from All in All, Huseby said.

George and Becky (Hawkins) Johnson, Frazee, are opening GJ’s Family Restaurant in Perham Friday. The business is located on Old Highway 10 West, in the location formerly known as the Silver Moon or Colonial Supper Club. Becky has been in the restaurant business most of her life, as her parents operated eating facilities. Most recently, she co-owned and operated Pork’s Pub in Frazee.

The Frazee village council will embark on a two-year construction program during the summers of 1973 and 1974. The improvements will include curb and gutter, blacktopping, sanitary sewer extensions, water main extensions, and storm sewer installation in various areas of the village.

The Otter Tail Power Company plans to spend $30,386,670 for construction in its three-state area during 1973, according to Albert V. Hartel, company president. Itemized budget accounts totaling this amount were recently approved by Otter Tail’s board of directors. Over the next five years, 1973-77, Hartl said the total construction budget for his company will exceed $93 million.
