Tuesday

Trailing by 8 points late in their game against DGF on Tuesday night, the Frazee Hornets called a time out to regroup for the final minutes of action. The Hornets responded and battled back to pick up their first Heart O’ Lakes Conference win in almost three years by defeating the Rebels by a score of 43-40.

“The upperclassmen really showed great composure and poise in the last minutes of the games. They shared the ball extremely well and waited for a wide open shot,” said head coach Trey Henius. “Jayden Sonnenberg hit two clutch free throws in the last seconds to put us up by 3.”

The win snapped a 30-game conference losing streak for the Hornets that dated back to the end of the 2019-20 season. As a team, the Hornets shot just over 44 percent from the field and made their free throws down the stretch to keep the Rebels at bay.

Jayden Sonnenberg had a big night from the field as she scored 21 points off of just 8-14 shooting. She also went 5-7 from the free throw line and came away with 5 rebounds and 4 steals.

Brynn Larson joined Sonnenberg in double figures with 13 points and pulled down 9 rebounds for the second straight game. Riyan Eckert added 6 points and 5 rebounds, while Hailey Selly rounded out the scoring with 3 points.
